For MicrobMonitor®2 Accessories:

How do you use the measuring loops?

Very easily, as follows:

  • Open the peel pouch at the opposite end to the loop.
  • Be careful to only touch the handle and not the loop.
  • Dip the loop into the water or oil sample you wish to test.
  • Ensure the liquid forms a layer across the surface of the loop.
  • Transfer the loop to the test kit you are using.
  • Agitate the loop in the test kit you are using to transfer the sample to the test kit.
What volume does the loop measure?

The loop will measure approximately 10 micro liters (µl) of liquid sample.

Why do I need to measure such a small volume as 10 µl?

MicrobMonitor2 is a very sensitive test method and can detect as few as 1 cfu/ml of water.  In some situations we understand that there are always going to be background levels of microbial contamination which are of little concern.  It is only when microbes start to proliferate and multiply to levels higher than normally experienced that there is  cause for concern.  By testing a very small sample volume (10µl) you will only pick up microbial numbers that are above 100 cfu/ml.  Therefore you are limiting the sensitivity of the test by limiting the sample volume tested.  This means results are more easily interpreted within the countable / quantifiable range of the test kit.

Examples of where 10µl is a relevant sample volume include

  • Aircraft fuel tank water bottoms
  • Lubricating oils

Whats their shelf life?

The loops have an expiry date printed on the wrap and and will be supplied with at least 1 year remaining.  The loops are manufactured with 5 years expiry date from date of production.

Which Tests kits do I need these for?

The syringes are supplied with every 5 pack of MicrobMonitor2.  If you purchase the Microbmonitor2 bulk packs without measuring devices then you can purchase just the syringes, saving on the cost of the loops provided in the 5 packs.

The syringes may be used for any test kit that requires you to measure between 0.1ml and 1 ml of sample.  They facilitate sample manipulation and measurement of test aliquotes.

Are the test ancillaries sterile?

Yes, syringes have been irradiation sterilized to ensure sample integrity.

Are they easy and safe to use?

Yes, they do not include a hypodermic needle, so there is no risk of puncture wounds.  You simply suck sample up ( by pulling the plunger) until it reaches the desired volume, then expel the measured sample into the test kit being used.

What tests would I use the Bumber with?

MicrobMonitor2 is the only test that would benefit from a bumper, its not a requirement to use the test but if you are a user conducting large numbers of MicrobMonitor2 tests then the bumper makes light work of the shaking part of the test procedure.

What are chlorine release tablets used for?

Any test kit which grows Microbes inside it should be disposed of in accordance with the manufactures instructions.  These will usually advise incineration or sterilisation prior to disposal to ensure any microbes are killed during or before disposal.  Chlorine release pills provide an easy convenient source of free chlorine which can be used to sterilise MicrobMonitor2 tests before disposal.

What are Sterile Loop dispensers used for?

MicrobMonitor2 tests in packs of 5 tests are supplied with sterile 10µl (0.01ml) measuring loops.  Bulk packs of MicrobMonitor2 are available with and with out measuring ancillaries.  We provide the loops separately to allow customers to purchase the ancillaries as separate items and make savings where possible.

The sterile measuring loops can be used to measure 10µl (0.01ml) of sample for any other application.

What are the 1 ml Sterile Loop dispensers used for?

MicrobMonitor2 tests in packs of 5 tests are supplied with sterile 1ml measuring syringes.  Bulk packs of MicrobMonitor2 are available with and with out measuring ancillaries.  We provide the syringes separately to allow customers to purchase the ancillaries as separate items and make savings where possible.

The sterile 1ml syringe can be used to measure between 0.1ml and 1ml of sample for any other application.
