For MicrobMonitor® AQUA™

  • What is the test used for?

The MicrobMonitor® Aqua™ test is a simple, novel and safe way of assessing the numbers of colony forming units (CFU) of bacteria in water samples.  CFU is the standard unit for measuring numbers of microbes.

  • Why test for bacteria in water?

Regulatory and industry guidelines specify using HPC to monitor water quality. HPC indicates the microbiological cleanliness of potable and recreational water systems and the effectiveness of disinfection. Rising HPC levels can signal post-treatment contamination or microbial re-growth due to insufficient disinfectant. A sudden increase above historical values should prompt investigation and possible remediation, like hyperchlorination. HPC increases at 36 or 37°C can signal early contamination by harmful bacteria.

  • How often should I test?

The frequency of your routine testing depends on the sample type and location. Testing can form part of an overall water quality monitoring program or it may be part of an investigative operation.

For advice on sampling frequency and investigations our consultants are available to advice.

  • Can MicrobMonitor® AQUA™ be used on-site?

Yes, MicrobMonitor® AQUA™ is designed for on-site use and is particularly useful where access to a laboratory is limited.

  • How sensitive is the MicrobMonitor® AQUA™ test?

The unique thixotropic gel formulation of MicrobMonitor® AQUA™ offers sensitivity comparable to laboratory TVC tests, detecting contamination levels down to 1 CFU/ml. This allows for accurate testing of a wide range of water samples.
