What do Dip Slides Test For?

Dip Slides provide what is commonly known as a Total Viable Count (TVC), which indicates the extent of microbial growth in a Water Sample. Dip Slides can also differentiate between the types of contaminants that may be present (Bacteria and Fungi), and the overview they provide is considered semi-quantitative.

The Dip Slide Test determines the total aerobic microbial contamination in aqueous samples on-site.  Dip Slides can test any aqueous sample and surfaces.

How do you use the Dip Slide Test?

The Dip Slide test kit consists of a plastic slide carrying different nutritive agar gels for culturing microorganisms on opposite sides of the slide.

One side has been designed to culture bacteria which grow as visible discrete red colonies when the slide is incubated.  The other side of the slide will culture moulds (fuzzy or fluffy colonies) and yeasts (usually white, cream or pink round colonies).  Moulds and Yeasts are collectively called Fungi.

The slide is dipped into the fluid to be tested and incubated for one to five days.  The slide’s appearance is compared to calibration charts provided in the instructions.
