For MicrobMonitor®2 Accessories

  • How do you use the measuring Loops?

Very easily, please see the following user instructions:

    • Open the peel pouch at the opposite end to the loop
    • Be careful to only touch the handle and not the loop
    • Dip the loop into the water or oil sample you wish to test
    • Ensure the liquid forms a layer across the surface of the loop
    • Transfer the loop to the test kit you are using
    • Agitate the loop in the test kit you are using to transfer the sample to the test kit
  • What volume does the Loop measure?

The loop will measure approximately 10 micro liters (µl) of liquid sample.

  • Why do I need to measure such a small volume as 10 µl?

The MicrobMonitor®2 test kit is a very sensitive test method and can detect as few as 1 cfu/ml of water. In some situations, we understand that there are always going to be background levels of microbial contamination which are of little concern.

It is only when microbes start to proliferate and multiply to levels higher than normally experienced that there is cause for concern. By testing small sample volumes (0.1ml, 0.25ml, 0.5ml) the sensitivity of the test can be adjusted to match the expected microbial numbers that are likely to be present in different situations.

Therefore, you are limiting the sensitivity of the test by limiting the sample volume tested. This means results are more easily interpreted within the countable/quantifiable range of the test kit.

Examples of where differing sample volumes are applicable:

    • Aviation Kerosine samples 0.5ml
    • Other middle distillate fuel samples 0.25 ml
    • Water from aircraft fuel tank drain samples 0.1ml

  • What's the shelf life of the measuring Loops?

The loops have an expiry date printed on the wrap and and will be supplied with at least 1 year remaining.  The loops are manufactured with 5 years expiry date from date of production.

  • Which Tests kits do I need Loops and Syringes for?

The Loops and Syringes are supplied with every 5 pack of MicrobMonitor®2.

If you purchase the MicrobMonitor®2 bulk packs without measuring devices then you can use your own measuring devices. Alternatively, we offer the Loops or Syringes separately, therefore making savings and reducing waste where possible.

The Syringes may be used for any test kit that requires you to measure between 0.1ml and 1 ml of sample. They facilitate sample manipulation and measurement of test aliquots. The Loops may be used for any test kit that requires you to measure 10 µl (0.01ml) of sample.

  • Are the Loops and Syringes safe and easy to use?

Yes, the Loops are perfectly safe and easy to use with no sharp edges and are supplied sterile.

The Syringes do not include a hypodermic needle, so there is no risk of a puncture wound and they are also supplied sterile.

Simply draw up the sample by pulling the plunger until you have the required amount, then dispense the measured sample into the test kit being used.

  • What is the MicrobMonitor®2 Bumber?

The Bumper is a hemisphere of sticky soft rubber like material. Bumpers can be stuck to bench surfaces and then used to tap the MicrobMonitor®2 bottles against them. This makes breaking up the gel in the test bottles much easier.

MicrobMonitor®2 tests are the only test that would benefit from a bumper, it’s not a requirement to use the test but if you are a user conducting large numbers of tests the Bumper makes light work of breaking up the gel and helps in the shaking procedure.

  • What are Sterile Syringes used for?

MicrobMonitor®2 tests sold in packs of 5 tests are always supplied with sterile 1ml measuring syringes. Bulk packs of MicrobMonitor®2 are available with and without measuring ancillaries. We provide the syringes separately to allow customers to purchase the ancillaries as separate items and make cost and waste savings where possible.

The sterile 1ml syringe can be used to measure between 0.1ml and 1ml of liquid sample for any other application.

  • What are the 1 ml Sterile Loop dispensers used for?

MicrobMonitor®2 tests in packs of 5 tests are supplied with sterile 1ml measuring syringes.  Bulk packs of MicrobMonitor®2 are available with and with out measuring ancillaries.  We provide the syringes separately to allow customers to purchase the ancillaries as separate items and make savings where possible.

The sterile 1ml syringe can be used to measure between 0.1ml and 1ml of sample for any other application.

  • How do I use the measuring Syringe?

    Very easily, as follows:

    • Open the peel pouch at the opposite end to the dispensing tip of the syringe
    • Be careful to only touch the plunger and the opposite end of the barrel to the dispensing tip
    • Dip the syringe into the fuel sample to a depth of 3 cm
    • Withdraw the plunger, drawing more sample than is required
    • Remove the syringe from the sample and hold its dispensing tip over the sample container with the barrel of the syringe lower than the tip. This will let any air bubbes in the syringe rise to the tip of the syringe
    • Slowly depress the plunger expelling any air bubbles and excess sample until the required volume of sample remains in the syringe. Familiarise your self with the measuring marks before use. Tip: the measuring mark is where the plastic or rubber of the plunger touches the barrel of the syringe
    • Transfer the syringe to the test kit bottle placing the tip of they syringe inside the test kit bottle. Depress the plunger expelling the measured sample into the test
    • Remove the syringe and recap the test ready for the next step of the test

  • What volume does the Syringe measure?

The Syringe is capable of measuring from 0.1ml to 1 ml.

  • What's the shelf life of the Syringes?

The Syringes have an expiry date printed on the wrap and will be supplied with at least 1 year remaining.  The Syringes are manufactured with 5 years expiry date from date of production.
