For SigTests®: Sig Nitrite®

  • What is the test used for?

The Sig Nitrite® test is used to detect the presence of Nitrite Reducing Bacteria (NRB), which degrade nitrite based corrosion inhibitors in cooling waters and other fluids.

  • What is the shelf life of the test?

The Sig Nitrite® test is manufactured with 1 years Shelf-life from date of production.  We normally supply tests with at least 8 months remaining, please let us know at the time of your order if you require a longer Shelf-life and we will do our best to accommodate you. The Expiry date of the product is printed on the batch label of the tests.

  • What are the storage requirements of the test?

The test can be stored for the duration of its shelf life at ambient temperature (in a range of about 2-25°C). Do not store frozen. If the appearance of the test has not changed after prolonged storage it should still be suitable for use even after it has exceeded its expiry date.

  • How quickly can results be obtained from the Sig Nitrite® test?

While the test typically takes up to 5 days for complete results, heavily contaminated samples can be detected overnight.

  • What is the HS code of the Sig Nitrite® test?

The Harmonized System (HS) is a standardized numerical method of classifying traded products. The HS assigns specific six-digit codes for varying classifications and commodities. Countries are allowed to add longer codes to the first six digits for further classification. It is used by countries around the world to uniformly identify and describe products for purposes such as assessing duties and gathering statistics.

The Sig Nitrite test is classified as: Prepared culture media for the development or maintenance of micro-organisms HS code for export from UK: 38.21.00.00 and HS code for import into the UK 38.21.00.00.00.

  • What does a positive result look like?

A positive result is identified by a change in colour from yellow/orange to bright pink in the test gel. Production of large gas bubbles causing gel ruptures also indicates the presence of nitrite reducing bacteria. The speed at which the colour change occurs indicates the severity of nitrite reducing bacteria contamination.

  • Can the Sig Nitrite® test be used for onsite testing?

Yes, the Sig Nitrite® test kit provides a quick and user-friendly method that can be used on-site without the need for specialised training or equipment. This capability helps in avoiding delays associated with transferring samples to a laboratory, providing quicker results and cost savings.

  • What pack sizes are available?

The Sig Nitrite® test is sold in packs of 10 tests.  If you require a larger pack size for your application please let us know.
