What does Sig Nitrite® Test For?
The Sig Nitrite® test kit allows you to reliably detect the extent of activity of nitrite-reducing bacteria. Nitrite is commonly used as a corrosion inhibitor, and this test is a reliable way to detect the risk of its depletion by microbes. This method is widely used by water treatment companies and world-renowned environmental test laboratories across several industrial sectors.
What can I test with Sig Nitrite®?
The Sig Nitrite® test kit can be used to detect the presence of nitrite-reducing bacteria in;
- Cooling waters
- Closed system water samples
- Metal working fluids
- Process Fluids
- Effluents
- Sewage
The Sig Nitrite® test kit can be used to confirm that in systems where nitrite is added to inhibit microbial reduction of sulphated, a suitable microbial Nitrate-Reducing Bacteria population is present.
The test can also be used to confirm that de-nitrification is taking place in effluents, sewage etc.
How do you use the Sig Nitrite® Test?
No Specialist training is required to perform the test. The test comprises a screw-capped glass tube that is partially filled with a selective microbiological culture medium. This medium is designed to detect the presence of nitrite-reducing microorganisms in an aqueous sample. Detection is indicated by a change in colour from orange to pink and the formation of gas bubbles. The sample is added to the test tube, which is then kept warm or incubated at around 30°C for up to 5 days.
