Product FAQs
For Fuel Extractant
-
What is the Fuel Extractant kit used for?
The Fuel Extractant kit is used for extracting microbes and water suspended in fuel samples into an aqueous solution, ensuring the sample is suitable for microbiological analysis.
-
Why is it important to extract microbes from fuel samples into an aqueous solution?
Only the MicrobMonitor®2 test is specifically designed to test samples of petroleum products. Other tests require a water sample in order to work correctly.
Extracting microbes into an water sample ensures the sample is suitable for testing with other kits that are not designed for use with dry fuel samples. This process helps achieve reliable and accurate results.
-
How does the Fuel Extractant kit simplify the extraction process?
There are various ways to remove microbes from fuel, most require a sterile facility and laboratory equipment. The Fuel Extractant provides a sterile container into which to add the fuel sample. The fuel sample is then mixed with the water based extractant solution in the Fuel Extractant bottle. The flocculating agent in the extractant then helps to coalesce water and settle the water back into a separate phase but now containing any suspended water from the fuel sample together with microbes from the fuel phase.
The kit’s unique methodology simplifies the extraction by providing a sterile and sealed bottle for clean extraction, allowing the creation of a suitable sample for microbiological analysis from fuel.
-
Can the Fuel Extractant kit guarantee the complete extraction of all microbes from fuel samples?
No, the complete extraction of all microbes is not guaranteed. The efficiency of the extraction can be influenced by the type of fuel being tested.
-
Is there an alternative to using the Fuel Extractant kit for testing fuel samples directly?
Yes, for testing fuel samples directly without relying on an extraction procedure, the MicrobMonitor®2 test kit is recommended.
-
Are the Fuel Extractant bottles sterile?
Yes, the Fuel Extractant bottles are fully sterile and individually sealed prior to use.
-
What is the minimal sample size required for the extraction process?
The minimal sample size required is 28ml of the fuel sample.
-
Can the Fuel Extractant kit be used with SigTests® and Dip Slides?
Yes, the kit allows SigTests® and Dip Slides to be used on non-water-based samples by providing an aqueous solution for testing.
-
What’s the shelf Life of the Fuel Extractant?
The expiry date of the product will be printed on the batch label of the product. The Fuel Extractant is given 1 year’s shelf life from its date of manufacture.
-
What are the required storage conditions of the Fuel Extractant?
The Fuel Extractant can be stored at ambient temperatures (2-30°C) in the dry and out of direct light. Avoid freezing to prevent damage to the glass bottles and tamper evident seals.
